Rail
Rail-grade power semiconductors for repetitive high-power operation.
Overview
Rail traction combines the harshest power-cycling duty in power electronics with 30-year service life expectations. DICIO hybrid IGBT + SiC SBD modules in the IHM and IHV housings and the 3.3 kV full-SiC GridFRAME 2 cover the standard catenary voltages — 1700 V devices for 750 V DC metro and light rail, 3300 V for 1500 V DC, 4500 V for 3 kV DC and AC mainline four-quadrant converters — while 1200 V and 1700 V modules and SiC discretes serve auxiliary converters and on-board battery systems. Low stray inductance and validated power-cycling capability support the acceleration-braking cycles of urban rail.
Power conversion architecture
Power conversion from catenary supply to traction
Power drawn from the catenary passes through input conversion and the traction inverter to drive the traction motors, while the auxiliary converter supplies HVAC, lighting and on-board battery charging.
Catenary
DC or AC supply network that delivers main power to vehicles, from urban metro to high-speed rail.
- DC catenary
- 750 V · 1500 V · 3 kV
- AC catenary
- 15 kV · 25 kV
